The Race was introduced in 2004 to comply with the new, smaller U.S. Snowshoe Association standard of 120in2 minimum surface area. Serious racers who understand the need for the lightest snowshoe choose Northern Lites Race. Many racers prefer both our Elite models for softer courses and our Race models for hard, faster courses.
Had a question after I ordered and received a timely response. I purchased the Race model and I'm very pleased. First time ever on snow shoes, just strapped them on and started running. Great quality, would definitely recommend them. Scott on Jan 22nd 2017
Bought this snowshoe for travel with photography equipment on well packed trails where my backcountry model would not be needed. They have proven to be exceptionally light, but the aggressive crampons are appreciated on hills and steep terrain where boots alone would not be safe. Quality craftsmanship, as with all Northern Lites products. Highly recommended. Kirt E. Carter on Jan 15th 2016
I bought the race shoes for my girlfriend for Christmas. I was also surprised to receive the a pair of yellow racers from her. Since then we have been out 4 times and we both LOVE the Northern Lites. I had demoed them at a 5K last year and instantly knew I needed a pair. We run about 3 times a week and now have added at least 1 night of snow shoe training per week. From a size 8 ladies to size 12 mens, they fit perfect. The bindings fit tightly around hiking boots or your regular running shoes. They are extremely light and the shaped perfect for running. We do about a 11 min mile pace and neither have missed a beat. No tripping, hitting our ankle or any binding problems. I have used a few other racing shoes and I am sold on these. Awesome buy and just another tool in the workout arsenal. Perfect for MN winters. We both have signed up for the 10K in Eau Claire in Feb, and excited to really race it. Paul Watson on Jan 12th 2016
