The Race was introduced in 2004 to comply with the new, smaller U.S. Snowshoe Association standard of 120in2 minimum surface area. Serious racers who understand the need for the lightest snowshoe choose Northern Lites Race. Many racers prefer both our Elite models for softer courses and our Race models for hard, faster courses.
Very nice snowshoes. Bought them for the wife and she placed in every race she ran this winter and said they are very light and maneuverable. All the very talented runners like Barb and Jen use them as well and those two are something else. Dick Lange on Mar 1st 2016
I started running these this season with the new cleat at Rib Lake. The performance is in par with the old cleat at less weight, which makes them even easier to run. I tried a couple other brands over the last two years but I'm happy to be back on Northern Lites. I prefer the Tru Trak binding especially. It's easy to get on and off and very stable. The shoes are also very well built and standup to the different conditions we face as racers. Mark B on Feb 29th 2016
After buying five different pairs of racing snowshoes(its true!), I seem to be using the Northern Lites racer more often than the rest. My personal training recorded times are quicker when using these light shoes. When they are strapped on your feet properly, take off and enjoy pleasure of running in any winter weather condition. Great traction up and down steep hills with adequate cleats and a narrow frame for a better natural running stride. Can't remember if my ankles have been kicked. Thank-you for a superior product!!!! We now have 4 pair of NorthernLites in our household and about a dozen pair in our extended family. Although many races are sponsored by a competitor, we wouldn't race-and podium-in anything else. So many of our friends agree- as seen by the amount of yellow and orange out on the courses! Extremely light-weight, durable and responsive. Keep delivering a quality product, NorthernLites! A.
