How to choose men's snowshoes

Start with your weight in winter gear, pack included. That decides the size. Then pick traction for where you'll hike.

1. Size by weight

Your weight with gearSizeBest pickAlso fitsBest pick weight (pair)
Up to 180 lb25"Men's Elite: our most popular men's snowshoeQuicksilver 25 (lower price), Backpacker 25from 3.0 lb
180–225 lb30"Backcountry: extra float for heavier loads and deeper snowQuicksilver 30, Backpacker 30from 3.3 lb
225–275+ lb33"Tundra: our deep-powder floaterBackpacker 33from 3.9 lb
Runners up to 200 lb20"Race or Race Wavefrom 1.7 lb

Size up one step for deep, light powder or a heavy overnight pack. Stay at your size for packed trails. Even our 33" Tundra weighs less than many brands' 25" snowshoes, so sizing up costs you very little.

2. Traction for your terrain

  • Glide: our lightest setup, for groomed trails and rolling terrain.
  • Summit: adds a heel lift for steep climbs and 4 stainless steel claws for crossing slopes. Most hikers in the mountains want this.
  • Ice and rock: the Timber Wolf (25", 30" or 33") comes with aggressive stainless steel crampons, plus our standard cleats for lighter days.

3. Fit for your boots

Men's snowshoe FAQ

What size snowshoes do I need?

Go by your weight with clothes, pack and water: 25" up to 180 lb, 30" for 180–225 lb and 33" for 225–275+ lb. If you're near the top of a range or headed into deep powder, size up.

What are the best snowshoes for men?

For most men up to 180 lb, the Men's Elite. At about 3 lb a pair it's around half the weight of other men's 25" snowshoes, and it's our most popular men's model. Heavier hikers should pick the Backcountry (30") or Tundra (33"). If you want to spend less, the Quicksilver is our best value, with the same lifetime warranty.

Do men need men's snowshoes, or will unisex work?

Unisex works fine; size and boot fit matter more than the label. Our only men-specific models are the Men's Elite (slightly wider and stouter than the Women's Elite) and the Tundra. The Backcountry, Backpacker, Quicksilver, Timber Wolf and running snowshoes are unisex.

What boots should I wear with snowshoes?

Waterproof hiking boots or insulated winter boots. All our hiking bindings fit over regular winter boots. For running snowshoes, wear trail-running shoes.

Where are they made?

In our shop in Englewood, Colorado, just south of Denver, from American parts. Frames are 7075-T6 aluminum, and the decking is COOLTHANE®, the same coated nylon used on inflatable Navy boats.

What if they don't work out?

You have 30 days to return them, and we pay return shipping. Every pair also has a limited lifetime warranty against defects. Shipping is free on US orders over $25. Shipping details
