The Northern Lites Race models were introduced in 2004 to comply with the new, smaller U.S. Snowshoe Association standard of 120in2 (minimum) surface area. Serious racers who understand the need for the lightest snowshoe choose Northern Lites Race. Athletes at the top of the sport routinely step up to the top of award podiums throughout the snowshoe racing community. The standard models may be ordered with the traditional Northern Lites TruTrak binding system or the new Northern Lites Speed Binding when you need the ultimate convenience for getting your snowshoes on and off quickly. Beyond that, the racing community has spoken and we have listened. The Race – Direct is just that, a direct mount, racing snowshoe. It has the same deck and frame as our award winning Race models, but we remove the bindings and provide you with stainless steel mounting hardware to allow you to mount your own running or trail shoes directly to the suspension strap and front cleat. In addition to being lighter still, this method of mounting your footwear to the snowshoe allows for an easier and more natural stride.
Nice light show compact snow shoe. These are a shoe that I can cover ground at a brisk walk even in 10 inches of fluffy snow. The nice thing is my 7 year grand daughter can also easily use these shoes around the yard. The upgraded bindings are great. Cindy Ludwig on Feb 19th 2019
I just took these running on Buttermilk in Aspen, Colorado, and wow. WOW!!! So light, incredible grip, decent float if the snow's not too deep (though that's not what they're intended for)...and incredibly fast. OMG!!! I flew past the uphillers heading UP Buttermilk, and then was cheered on from the lifts as I ran down...passing beginner skiers on the way.
I have never run so fast, or had so much fun on a pair of snowshoes. Today I'm recovering, as I am so sore from having so much fun. I have the direct mount Race, I was intimidated, but they were easier to install than I thought, and since I have a worldwide self-help show, www.InspireNationShow.com I will be telling the world about these.
Wow! WOW!! WOW!!! These are so much fun!!!!!! Michael Sandler on Dec 9th 2018
